Sony VPL-VW50

Good points: Sony has always been in par with perfection. Every time it comes out with a new innovation, the company obtains feedback on it from its consumers either in the form of surveys or online questionaires, showing that either way they care about their products. As with other products of Sony, the Sony Projector, one of Sony’s latest products is also available through Sony, as well as through other electronic stores.

Bad Points: Some of the views on this point to a certain degree of loss in resolution because of the scaler which is a drawback.

What we thought: Although the Sony VPL-VW50's quality in picture, falls short in a number of areas, it can still be considered as one of the best buys in 1080p front projection.

Ideally, the Sony's VPL-VW50 is touted as the most attractive of front projectors. It is a dashing mix of elegance and technology with a gift of sleek looks with smooth, rounded lines.

However, Sony VPL-VW50's remote control looks so much like the earlier remote designs of Sony company’s budget front projectors. The remote model is basic with direct access keys for the picture formats, lens control, brightness, contrast, and aspect ratio selection.

The hallmark feature of the Sony VPL-VW50 is its 1,920x1,080 (aka 1080p) native resolution, which exposes every detail of 1080i and 1080p sources without the need for scaling. Another noteworthy feature affecting picture is the Iris setting in the Cinema Black Pro menu. The connectivity options on the VPL-VW50 are relatively an additional gain for a front projector.

Undoubtedly, the picture quality is of high resolution, with the Pearl delivering every pixel of a 1080i/p HD source. Its solid contrast ratio is arguably the most important parameter in the display. Sony VPL-VW50 has color decoding that brings out rich, saturated colors on the screen with good clarity.
